Sureen Gouws

  • Sureen Gouws is a South African-born artist and former architect now based in Brisbane, Australia. Her work explores the balance between form, texture, and emotion through minimalist, handcrafted wall sculptures. With a Master’s degree in Interior Architecture, Sureen draws from her architectural background to create quiet, powerful pieces that invite reflection and calm.

Diagnosed with ADHD later in life, Sureen turned to art as a way to find peace and clarity through burnout and anxiety. Her practice is deeply personal and rooted in mindfulness, presence, and healing. Each piece is a meditation—offering others a moment to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with something deeper.

  • "I create art that helps people slow down, breathe, and reconnect with themselves. In a world that often feels overwhelming and overstimulating, I believe we all need spaces that bring calm, clarity, and presence. My minimalist sculptures are a reflection of this intention—offering quiet beauty that complements the spaces we live and work in."

Sureen’s pieces are inspired by natural patterns, sacred geometry, and universal flow. Themes of wholeness, unity, and balance are gently expressed through neutral tones, clean lines, and richly textured layers—designed to bring a subtle but grounding presence into any space.

  • Every artwork begins as a simple 2D sketch that evolves into a 3D model. Sureen designs intricate patterns for each layer and laser-cuts them from thin MDF sheets. These are then assembled like a puzzle onto custom boards, carefully layered to play with light and shadow.

The process is highly tactile and meditative. She hand-glues each layer, carves sculptural details, applies texture mediums, and finishes every piece with soft, natural hues. The result is a piece that feels organic yet refined—deeply architectural yet soulful.

  • Sureen’s work is more than just decorative—it’s intentional. Each artwork is a visual anchor in a space, inviting calm and curiosity. Whether featured in a luxury home, wellness studio, or commercial project, her pieces create meaningful visual pause points that resonate on an emotional and energetic level.

Collectors are drawn to the tactile quality, architectural influence, and the deeper stories woven into each piece. A portion of all sales supports cleft lip surgeries through Smile Organisation Australia—honouring Sureen’s personal journey and desire to give back.
